It’s been a couple months since the last newsletter.. So what have we been up to? The Colors of Spring was a huge success. We worked on it in conjunction with the Parks Beautification Committee, and raised $5,275 each!! Thank-you for all that helped out! The awards night was also a success as usual. Thank-you to Scott Calder who organized it, and anyone else who might have helped him. Congratulations to everyone who earned an award in 2018 (including Putzka) , the department would not be the same without you!
Fitness Fridays have been gaining traction since Tara has been coming out. Tara is a Pilates and Yoga instructor who has been coming out at the end of the month for the months of April and May. She will be coming out on Friday June 21 this month. We have approved a 6-month trial for Fitness Fridays, It costs the society $50/session but is FREE to you with membership. Please stop by and check it out. It really is a “bonding” experience.
We got approval to purchase 50 ‘Project All In’ Challenge Coins to help “get talking” about mental health. The idea is that members who have the All In Coin can simply slide it forward towards another member and a conversation is initiated. The recipient of the coin slide can be an active listener or start the conversation if need be. Coins are $8.00 each but will be sold at $4.00 a piece to all emergency services workers in Lamont.
The Friends of Lamont Firefighters Society provides funding for training and equipment for all members of the Friends of Lamont Firefighters Society. If there is a course you would like to take, please contact Kylee for an Application for Funding form!
The Town of Lamont is putting on a “Pre Canada Day” Celebration on June 30, 2019. If you are interested in becoming a member and helping out with fire truck rides or Sparky the Fire Dog, please get in contact with Andrew. There are some fantastic fundraising ideas coming down the pipes. We have our Annual Heroes in the sky event- Andrew will be looking for volunteers and solidifying plans in mid July- keep a lookout for that.
We have a carwash planned for August 25,2019- more information to come!
In the beginning of the Friends of Lamont Firefighters Society in 2017 we had 24 members, since then our numbers have dropped from 24 to 21, and now in 2019 to 16. This lack of volunteers causes stress on your board members. Not only are we on the board, we are also members of the Fundraising, Social and Funding Approval Committees, respectively. This means the same 7-9 people on the Friends of Lamont Firefighters Society doing all Friends of Lamont Firefighters Society business. What is causing this drop in membership? How can we increase membership? What do YOU need, in order to become a member? I ask you to come to any of the board members with any information you may have on recruitment of members.
